Like most regions, restaurants in this area have a high casualty rate. A small story in the local paper announced new owners have taken over a recently closed restaurant and will be opening under the name "The Inlet."
While the owners are experienced restaurateurs that own a famous restaurant in nearby Philadelphia, I have to say I question the soundness of their choice of name.
Locals know "the inlet" as a secion of Atlantic City known for uban decay and high crime. While Atlantic City's Inlet has been undergoing a revitalization with whole blocks of dilapidated buildings replaced with lovely townhomes, the reputation hasn't quite caught up with the physical improvements.
My favorite bad name decision is the legendary story of Chevrolet attempting to sell the Nova in South America. "No Va" means No Go (or don't / doesn't go) in Spanish. Not exactly what you want to communicate about a new car.
Naming a product, service, or a whole company is incredibly challenging. Many people make recommendations about how to do it. I'll offer two. Don't be trendy and get help doing it.
